Roger Ballen

Roger Ballen was born in New York in 1950 and began documenting small villages in rural Africa. He started taking images of the population from the 80s to the 90s. He also did some collaboration with some of Die Antwoord's music videos. I really like Ballen's work because it's very different and unique. He's not like anyone else I've saw and this makes him a very interesting photographer. With the image shown of Die Antwoord you can see he has used a slight HDR effect on the image. The composition works well lining up with the rule of thirds. The low key lighting and black background makes the subjects stand out and the high contrast and harsh lighting really brings out the features off the models.
